NATIONAL HISTORY The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Born in 1980 when a group of caring volunteers helped a young boy fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, the Foundation is now the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 67 chapters in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and more than 25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants a wish every 40 minutes and has granted more than 161,000 wishes in the U.S. since inception. CHAPTER HISTORY The Wisconsin chapter was founded in 1984 and over 3,000 families statewide can attest to the power of a wish. The chapter’s Field Office, located in Appleton, opened in 1996 to better serve children and their families in northeastern Wisconsin. Last year, the chapter granted a record-breaking 268 wishes. Currently, nearly 200 Wisconsin children are in the process of having their special wishes granted.

INTEGRITY To maintain the integrity of the mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin, responsible stewardship of funds is promised to every donor, sponsor, volunteer and wish family. The 2007 audit results showed that administrative costs were only 6.3% and fundraising expenses just 12.3%. This means more than 81% of the funds were directed to the granting of wishes - the Foundation’s mission.
