In Wisconsin, more than 100 wishes scheduled March-August have been delayed and are being rescheduled. There are currently more than 430 children whose wishes are pending. On average, Make-A-Wish America grants more than 15,800 wishes per year, and 77 percent of these wishes involve air travel. We estimate more than 30 wishes per day could be delayed by COVID-19 related postponements.
We are hard at work, granting the wishes that can be fulfilled at this time and preparing for the many wishes that will need to be granted once we are through this season.
We have seen many outside fundraisers have to cancel or postpone their events, and we moved our largest signature fundraiser, Wish Night to a virtual event on April 2. You can still donate at wishnight20.givesmart.com. You can also check out the inspiring program on Facebook and YouTube.
We have also made the move to have our staff work remotely from the safety of their homes. The office is closed to public visits until further notice. However, we are all available by email, phone, etc. So please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Here is a link to our staff directory.
We will continue to monitor guidance from national and international public health and government organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO) and U.S. State Department, and are working closely with the national Make-A-Wish Medical Advisory Council, keeping the best interest of the children and families we serve at the center of all policy decisions we make.
The health and safety of our wish families is our priority – and, as always, we remain committed to our vision of granting the wish of every eligible child fighting a critical illness. Your support is as critical as ever because there are more wish kids waiting for wishes than ever before. Your help today will bring hope and joy to wish kids in your community tomorrow. If you’d like to assist Make-A-Wish Wisconsin during this difficult time, please donate today at wisconsin.wish.org/give.
