A dream of becoming a Boston Bruin for a day turned reality for West Salem High School freshman Jimmy Bjorkman, who was born with hypo-plastic left heart syndrome. His condition prevents him from playing any hardcore contact sports, so a few years ago he found a love for hockey. He and his family recently returned from his Make-A-Wish trip to Boston. The family toured the city and attended a Boston Bruins game, where Jimmy got the VIP treatment.

Stars and cakes decorate a wall in the commons area at Marshall High School as students raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Wisconsin chapter. “Be a star for a child,” fundraising organizer Isi Salas said, as he encouraged people to donate money for a star before the high school boys basketball game between Marshall and Waterloo last week.

Whether you are flying solo this Valentine's Day or not, a fun Anti Valentine's Day Gaming Party is going on Feb. 14 that also benefits a good cause. This event is being put on by Rock 94.7 benefiting Make-A-Wish Wisconsin. It will be hosted by Gaming Generations at Biggby Coffee in Rib Mountain. Registration opens at 12 p.m., the tournament begins at 1 p.m., and the championship race is held at 2:45 p.m.

Jimmy Bjorkman is a freshman at West Salem high school and was born with hypo-plastic left heart syndrome. Essentially, Bjorkman was born with only half a heart. The Make-A-Wish Foundation stepped up to help grant Bjorkman his wish, to become a Boston Bruin for a day. Next weekend Bjorkman and his family will travel to Boston to spend time in the city and see the Bruins take on the Canadians. Bjorkman said he has been counting down the days and is excited for the trip.

John Pozniak and Emily Goehring don’t want a gravy boat or matching towels as wedding gifts. Instead, they want to make a child’s wish come true. Pozniak, a former International Falls resident, and his fiance are teaming with the Make-A-Wish Foundation in hopes of fully funding the wish of a child diagnosed with cancer. The wedding is a perfect platform for helping to make their dream a reality, the couple said.

They’re obviously Packers fans, but they have a pretty good reason to root for the Seahawks too! It turns out, the Seattle Seahawks’ twelfth man is actually from Merton, Wisconsin.

Actually, Kaden had been smiling all morning as his family talked about going to watch Mukwonago basketball players shoot free-throws at the high school for a Make-A-Wish fundraiser on Dec. 31.
