Joseph wished for a celebrity-style shopping spree to help him forget about his medical problems and feel like a true star for a day. From the moment he stepped from his stretch limo into a sea of screaming fans, Joseph's wish exceeded all expectations!
Joseph is an optimistic 9-year-old who was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia shortly after his newborn screening. His blood condition causes him to have ongoing body aches and pains, take nightly medications, receive bi-monthly needle pokes for blood work and an occasional lack of stamina and energy in comparison to other children his age. Through it all, he is resilient.
For Joseph, to have a full day that was all about him and his wish of a celebrity-style shopping spree was breathtaking. There were so many touches to make the day extra special, from the stretch Hummer limo, to the red carpet, paparazzi, supporters, private security, personal shopper, private fitting room, custom t-shirts and floor tiles personalized with Joseph's name! It will be a day he and his family will always remember.
"Joseph truly felt like Mr. Hollywood as he sported his requested 'gold chains, cool shades and fly outfit,'" laughs Joseph's mother. "Thank you for investing so much of your time, energy and effort into this once-in-a-lifetime experience for my son! All of you will always be held in a very high regard.”
Joseph’s wish was granted with the help of Macy’s on National Believe Day. Make-A-Wish volunteers and staff and Macy’s Associates came out in force to give Joseph and his family the shopping spree of a lifetime along with a very healthy dose of hope, strength and joy.
